The following summarizes KFMA's cancellation policy.
KROC policy. If KROC closes the facilities due to weather, facilities issues or other unforeseen circumstances we will not have class.
Election days. When regular elections are held in our class venues we will not have class. If circumstances on certain special election days allow it, we may try to relocate to one of the other centers.
Weather conditions. If weather conditions (existing or forecasted with reasonable expectation of accuracy) make traveling to or from class hazardous we will likely amend our schedule or cancel class. We do not follow the FCPS cancellation policy as it is not always appropriate for our circumstances.
Holidays. If traditional holidays (particularly New Years Eve & Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & day) fall on a class night we will not have class.
Illness or family crisis. Sensei Oviatt rarely calls in sick. If we cancel due to illness rest assured that Sensei Oviatt likely can't stand.
Training events. One or two training events a year take Sensei Oviatt out of town (usually on weekends). These continuing education events are just as important for the students as they are for Sensei Oviatt. If at all possible Sensei Oviatt will obtain an appropriate substitute for at least a partial schedule. *
Vacation. The Oviatt family typically takes a week or two for vacation time during the summer months. As with training events, Sensei Oviatt will make every effort to obtain an appropriate substitute for at least a partial schedule. *
Extraordinary Circumstances. These are those occasionally good, occasionally bad, almost always weird events that we couldn't reasonably foresee.
* KROC must approve the substitutes. If KROC is uncomfortable with the available substitute they may request that we simply cancel.
